Structural design for a mountain home in Snohomish County
Alpine Engineering, working with prentiss + balance + wickline Architects, developed engineering plans for this gorgeous architectural design in Snohomish County, WA.
Recently, Alpine has received zoning approval through a SEPA process, and we’ve also received the land disturbance permit. We are thrilled to see this project begin construction in the spring.
The home site is on top of a knoll, with views in three directions. Alpine developed a new road to the site through the steep mountain terrain, minimizing impacts to sensitive areas and avoiding steep slope setbacks. Using creative design techniques, we developed a stormwater management plan that used low impact development (LID) concepts to dissipate the stormwater onsite. This required a portion of the parcel to be placed into a forest protection plan. We developed the record documents for the forest protection plan and critical area site plan through collaborative efforts with the consulting team, which included Amman Septic Designs, Nelson Geotechnical Associates, Wetland Resources, and Harmsen Surveying.
The property is at the top of a remote development and is up against forestry land. For grading design, Alpine Engineering utilized LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data to create a surface terrain model. Because the planned location is in steep forested terrain, Alpine Engineering was able to save the client money by creating a desktop-level surface for planning and analysis to site the house and driveway up the mountain.
